After several weeks of training camp practices and 3 preseason games, the quarterback competition in New Orleans has come to an end as Kellen Moore has announced that Spencer Rattler will be the starting quarterback this season for the Saints.
Moore has said since day one that this would be an open competition, with Rattler and Tyler Shough equally vying for the starting spot. We have seen them both rotate take reps with the first team in practices, with Rattler starting the first and final preseason
games and Shough starting in Week 2.
Last week, when asked about how he felt the competition was going, Moore said, “it was really close” between the two and that no decisions would be made until after the Saints last preseason game against the Broncos.
Drafted by Saints in the 5th round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Rattler has been vocal that wanted the starting job and was working as hard as he could to earn it. Rattler told local media after practice last week that he just goes out and does the best he can and tries not to think too far ahead. “I’m just controlling what I can.”
Rattler will now be in control at quarterback for the Saints starting this Sunday as they open the 2025 regular season at home in Caesars Superdome against the Arizona Cardinals.
