It came right down to the wire, but West Ham have managed to sign Axel Disasi from Chelsea, with the 27-year-old center back joining them on loan for the rest of the season.
This deal had been rumored off and on for a couple weeks now, but nothing seemed to be happening, possibly because West Ham had more grandiose ideas for the defensive reinforcements and possibly also because Chelsea would’ve preferred a permanent transfer. None of those options panned out, so the Hammers came back for Disasi at
the last second. Thankfully, everything worked out despite the mad rush — at one point, Disasi was having his medical even before a full agreement had been reached! Not ideal, but all’s well that ends well.
Disasi still has 3.5 years left on his contract at Chelsea, so this is hardly the last time we’ll have to go through a transfer song and dance. For now, he’s at West Ham and hopefully things will go well for him.
Good luck, Axel!
