The Guardians are in a tight spot and their playoff chances are fixin’ to R-U-N O-F-T.
The Guardians got shut-out again yesterday and Nicole had the unpleasant task of telling you about it here. If you think that’s bad, wait until you see how hard it was for Madelyn to write the “Three Positives” article releasing later today. You may ask why are we still asking poor Madelyn to write positives as the Guardians are 2-8 in their last 10 games? I would just tell you that it’s a fool who looks for logic
in the chambers of the human heart.
I did the math on Twitter, and since 2019, the Guardians are 22nd in wRC+ at 95. If you take their Hall of Fame bat who plays everyday out of the lineup, they are at 89 wRC+ as a team which puts them 27th (typo on Twitter where I said 28th, oops) in baseball. For six years, it’s been the hitting that’s the problem. And, I feel they either need to fix that with these latest draftees/signees (Bazzana, DeLauter, Brito, Genao, Velazquez, Ingle, Cozart and then the 2025 class) or their needs to be an organizational overhaul. We got prospects. We’re bona fide. And, for the Guardians’ front office to fix this offense, there will be many obstacles in their path they’ll have to see those prospects overcome to vouchsafe their reward.
Good news on the pitching front, however, as Khal Stephen debuted in Akron and looked great for 3 innings.
But, of course, I’m also reminded of Gavin Williams’ disappointing start yesterday and worried that the pitching factory pipeline has sprung some leaks. You can’t do this to me right now, pitchers. We got to beat that competition.
You should check out Guardians Weekly for fun interviews with Parker Messick, John Means, Ben Lively and assistant director of player developement Alyssa Nakken. How this organization can have so many amazing people and not win a World Series is beyond me. I don’t get it, Big Dan.
Finally, the Tampa Bay Rays are coming to town with Junior Caminero ready to remind us all of that dumb trade. And, all it does is remind me that baseball is the most fiendish instrument of torture ever devised to bedevil the days of man. Hang in there, Guardians’ fans.
