Sport1’s “Doppelpass” series, a rather infamous talk show, celebrated its’30th anniversary recently by welcoming Bayern Munich’s honorary president and current supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß to the show. Given that this appearance took place just a week after the tumultuous 2025 summer transfer window closed for the Bavarians, there were some very controversial topics to be discussed and dramatic headlines to be created. One such headline would center around Uli Hoeneß’ comments about Bayern’s
board member for sport, Max Eberl.
On one hand, Hoeneß leaked info about the Nicolas Jackson loan to make the deal look less bad than it was currently being portrayed and protect Eberl. On the other, Hoeneß called Eberl “sensitive”and suggested he took transfer discussions too personally while also openly telling Sport1’s hosts that he would give Eberl the advice of trying to wrap up transfers earlier next summer. The latter comments certainly did not help Eberl’s standing at all.
But Karl-Heinz Rummenigge sees things differently. Speaking to German news site SID, he explained that disputes just happen from time to time: “If there’s a dispute from time to time, then it just happens. There’s a ‘Bavarian culture of conflict’. Uli took it to extremes with me, sometimes the doors flew off their hinges, but he always acts in the club’s best interests. Our club should always be the leader domestically. And internationally, if things go well, we want to go far again.”
The concept of such heated disputing was certainly not the reason for the critique of Hoeneß’ comments, though.
