During the offseason, Cleveland Browns fans vote in SB Nation Reacts to express their confidence level in the team or their thoughts on other topics.
This week, we asked one question to Browns fans, which
centered around the two big AFC North coaches who became available: John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens, and Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Note: This was before the New York Giants became heavily involved with Harbaugh, but the question still stood in its intention: did Cleveland fans want the experienced rival coach from within the division, or did they want to steer clear of them and find a new candidate?
46% of fans voted that they want a different coach hired, while 37% voted for Harbaugh. 17% cast a vote for Tomlin, although perhaps his number would be higher if there wasn’t a need to acquire him via a trade. Depending on how you interpret the results, Harbaugh may have been the actual favorite among Browns fans, considering that the “steer clear” category is diluted among probably 10+ other candidates.
On a national level, prior to the stepping down of Tomlin, it was asked whether several playoff-consistent coaches should be fired. 43% of fans said none of the three coaches should be fired, and on an individual basis, there wasn’t a strong consensus about any of them.
If Harbaugh indeed officially signs in New York, then the question is where does Browns former head coach Kevin Stefanski land?
