What is the story about?
UW completed their last open practice before the spring game yesterday. ESPN revealed their “Prospect X”. And will we see the NCAA basketball tournaments expand to 76 teams? Those and more for your Wednesday Dots.
Football Dots
- As many people had already guessed (especially Husky fans), ESPN revealed that the “Prospect X” that they highlighted before the NFL draft was indeed Zach Durfee. ESPN has an article where they describe what happened in his house during the NFL draft, his identity, and his long journey from Dawson, Minnesota to the NFL. The article also mentions how Roger Rosengarten and Troy Fautanu played a part in his draft process.
- Yesterday was the last open practice before the spring game on Friday at 6:30. UW will be practicing today, but it is not open to the public (or the media).
- Dawgman has interviews with Jacob Manu and Zaydrius Rainey-Sale after yesterday’s practice. The linebacker position will have a lot of competition, but according to ZRS that should allow them to be fresher. Their interview with coach Brian Odom is ($) here.
- Roman Tomashoff has his article on yesterday’s practice. He also focuses on the LB room including an interview with LB coach Brian Odom where he says that UW’s current LB room is “as good of a room that I’ve been around in my career”.
- Dan Raley has his article here, again focusing on the LB’s. When asked about sharing stars and minutes with a stacked LB room, Xe’ree Alexander said “I don’t think I’ll really care that much” and “We’re all really great players. We all can get to the next level. I think it’s up to the coaches. It’s not up to me. I don’t care. We’re all going to be on the field.”
- Christian Caple has his ($) article on the LB’s . He points out that UW’s current LB rotation doesn’t include either of the LB’s that started at LB last year: Buddah Al-Uqdah (who is expected back this fall after his injury) and Devin Bryant (who transferred to USC).
- ESPN has an ‘under-the-radar’ player for each top-25 team. For UW, that player is Jordan Washington-although it’s very likely that Kyle Bonagura at ESPN isn’t following spring practices enough to know that Jordan Washington is injured and nobody knows if he’ll even play this season.
- CBS Sports has their post-spring top-25. They have UW at #21. They have 5 of UW’s opponents this year currently ranked above UW.
UW Athletics Dots

- UW Women’s Tennis will be playing Liberty in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday. It is their 20th overall and fifth consecutive NCAA appearance. The match will be in Charlottesville, VA.
- The Windemere Cup is this weekend. Teams from both Canada and Great Britain will be competing in the 40th Anniversary of this event.
- The NCAA may be expanding both the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments to 76 teams starting next year.
