The CTA has once again had a look at some of the weekend’s highlights in La Liga and taken time out to explain some of the decisions that have been made on the field of play.
Once again an incident from a Barcelona game has made it into the selection, namely Dani Olmo’s goal during Sunday’s win over Getafe.
Olmo scored the third of the match to effectively seal the three points. At the same time, a pitch invader ran across the other end of the pitch waving a Palestinian flag.
The incident was mentioned
in referee Ricardo de Burgos’ report after the game: “In the 62nd minute, a spectator entered the field of play carrying a Palestinian flag without interfering with the progress of play, at which point a goal was scored by the home team. He was removed by stadium security, without any further incident.”
The CTA reviewed the incident and came to the conclusion that the match official was absolutely right to let the goal stand.
“It is an unusual situation. If an external agent, such as the spectator, enters the field, the referee must only stop play if he interferes with the play. In this case, the spectator did not interfere and the goal is legal. The referees applied the rules correctly.”
No controversy here.
