Can Austin Simmons Build On Week 1?
Austin Simmons
could not have asked for a better debut in a Tigers’ uniform.
The Ole Miss transfer finished with 252 yards with four touchdowns compared to just two incompletions. It was against FCS Arkansas Pine-Bluff but Missouri did exactly what it was expected to do in a game like that.
The run game was effective enough while the offensive line held up. Simmons benefitted from both and turned in a balanced and elite performance.
The question is — can Kansas make Simmons uncomfortable?
Will Kansas Apply Pressure?
One thing we know is that Kansas will certainly attempt to send pressure at Simmons.
The goal for the defense will be to play in the backfield and get the Mizzou offense off its game early and often. A bonus for Kansas is that Missouri will be without Ahmad Hardy once again. The backs for the Tigers did enough against Arkansas Pine-Bluff but the Jayhawks will attempt to put up a bigger push.
The offense should be able to score in this game but Kansas will need to get some stops. That will come in the form of pressure. This is the matchup to watch and could be a defining factor — the Kansas rush vs. Missouri’s offensive line.
Final Thoughts & Prediction
There should be no shortage of explosive plays in this one. Both teams have firepower on offense ready to show off on a Friday night. The Jayhawks are expected to be a bit better than last season while Missouri should take a step back, albeit a small one. This is an exciting game for Kansas to host as it brings an early statement spot. Expect some points to be scored in a game that will come down to the fourth quarter and who makes the final play.
