Despite spoiling Kenneth Walker III’s return and shutting down the Kansas City Chiefs offense en route to a much needed 20-3 victory, it came at a cost. The Seattle Seahawks are now in position to be without their star left tackle for at least a short period of time.
According to Ian Rapoport, left tackle Charles Cross suffered a high ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win and is expected to miss time, with optimism he can return within 1-2 weeks. It’s unclear if the team plans to place
him on injured reserve.
Rapoport’s estimated timeline seemingly rules him out for Seattle’s next two games against the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals, with a return in Week 10 against the Las Vegas Raiders a possibility. However, with the Seahawks bye week coming right after, Week 12 against the San Francisco 49ers appears far more realistic, barring a quick rehab.
Cross exited the game prior to Emanuel Wilson’s touchdown that put Seattle up 20-3, and after being evaluated by team trainers on the sideline—was quickly ruled out. Veteran Josh Jones slotted in on the left side, and is in line to start for the time being.
Rashid Shaheed injury feedback ‘positive’
While Cross’s absence is a huge blow, wide receiver Rashid Shaheed appears to have avoided a serious injury.
According to head coach Mike Macdonald, early tests on Shaheed’s knee yielded positive results, although he didn’t provide context on whether he’d be required to miss any time. The veteran receiver caught two passes for one yard before he exited late in the second quarter and was later ruled out.
Shaheed suffered the injury on quarterback Sam Darnold’s interception during the Seahawks’ final drive of the first half, when he colilded with teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the back of the end zone while in the air trying to receive the pass.
Should he be forced to miss time, second year wideout Tory Horton will likely see an uptick in targets, alongside Cooper Kupp and tight end AJ Barner—who finished second on the team in receptions as well as receiving yards against Kansas City.
Although Cross and Shaheed’s injuries leave the status of Seattle’s offense in question, they’re set to receive another significant backfield upgrade in the coming weeks.
Jadarian Price nearing return
Macdonald added the team intends to open running back Jadarian Price’s (chest) 21-day practice window this week, which will help determine his game status against the Bears. The rookie ball carrier was placed on injured reserve at the beginning of October after re-aggravating the chest injury he suffered against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2, but appears to be nearing a return—even if it doesn’t come against Chicago.
Upon re-taking to field, he’ll likely split carries with Zach Charbonnet (knee), who—like Price is expected back sooner than later.
It’ll be worth monitoring the status of both Shaheed and Price when the team releases their first practice report of the week on Thursday afternoon.
