The Brian Daboll era is over.
The New York Giants are firing their head coach after a 2-8 start to the 2025 season.
This development is bad news for the Philadelphia Eagles, who largely owned Daboll since
he was hired in 2022. The Birds were 7-2 in nine meetings against him.
Ironically, Daboll’s last-ever win as Giants head coach came against the Eagles back in Week 6. New York followed that feel-good victory with four straight losses, including one to Philadelphia in Week 8.
Daboll leaves behind a 21-41-1 overall record. 10 of those wins came in his first season on the job. He then only managed to win 11 games over the next three seasons combined.
To suggest that Daboll was the only reason for the Giants’ struggles would be foolish. They’ve been a pretty pathetic franchise for some time now, with just two winning seasons since 2013.
It’s quite possible that Daboll’s replacement won’t be a major upgrade on him. But it’ll be hard to do much worse.
One candidate in consideration to be the Giants’ new head coach could be former Eagles quarterback Mike Kafka, who is being promoted from offensive coordinator to interim head coach.
