The Michigan Wolverines started the 2026 baseball season last weekend with four games in Surprise, Arizona in the College Baseball Series. The Wolverines faced three tough opponents in No. 12 Oregon State twice, No. 24 Arizona and Stanford, but beat them all. Michigan won three straight days to take the tournament crown, and while Michigan may have lost to Oregon State in extras on Monday in a separate game, the season is still off to a fantastic start.
Now, Michigan is going back on the road for
a weekend trip, this time to Arlington, Texas for the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series. Let’s take a deeper look at each of their opponents.
Florida State
Michigan will start the weekend against Florida State on Friday at noon ET. The Seminoles are typically a title contender, and they started the season strong this past weekend with two wins against James Madison. On Tuesday, FSU improved to 3-0 with a mercy rule victory over Jacksonville.
Last season, Florida State was one of the best teams in the country, finishing with a 42-16 record and advancing to the Super Regionals before falling short against Oregon State. Florida State is currently ranked No. 16 in the country, so this will be Michigan’s fourth game against a ranked opponent in its first five games.
Louisville
The Cardinals made a deep run in the NCAA Tournament last season, pulling off upsets over Vanderbilt and Miami to punch a ticket to Omaha. Louisville won a couple games in the College World Series, but its season ultimately came to an end against Coastal Carolina.
It was a good run for Louisville, and expectations are still pretty high this season. The Cardinals started the season ranked No. 8 in the country, but lost two of three last weekend against Michigan State, which dropped them down to No. 15.
Kansas State
The only unranked team Michigan will face this weekend is Kansas State. The Wildcats and Wolverines squared off in last year’s Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, with Kansas State winning, 5-1. Kansas State finished with a 32-26 record in 2025, which was good enough to earn an NCAA Tournament bid. The Wildcats, however, did not make it out of the Austin Regional.
The Wildcats are off to good start this year with convincing wins over Iowa (15-6) and Penn State (24-5 in seven innings). They also took down UConn, 7-3, and then improved to 4-0 earlier this week with an 11-8 win vs Air Force.
Michigan had a challenging weekend to start the season, but it went a lot better than expected. Perhaps the same can be said following this slate of games. Here is the schedule for the weekend:
- Friday: vs. Florida State, noon ET
- Saturday: vs. Louisville, noon ET
- Sunday: vs. Kansas State, 7:30 p.m. ET
