On Thursday evening, the San Francisco 49ers brought back a very familiar face to their receiving core, signing wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a one-year, $7 million deal, ending his long-lasting free agency.
Samuel, 30, had spent the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders after getting traded there last offseason ahead of the final year of his contract. He caught 72 passes for 727 yards and five touchdowns, but did not see much usage as a rusher, taking only 17 carries for 75 yards.

free agency this offseason along with many other veteran receivers and went unsigned until Thursday, when the 49ers brought back the former All-Pro wideout on a one-year deal. The news came after Ricky Pearsall dealt with knee swelling and was held out of training camp, with surgery being a potential option for his nagging PCL injury.
Well, on Friday morning, the 49ers added even more pass-catching depth, signing tight end Josiah DeGuara and wide receiver Trenton Irwin to one-year deals, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
DeGuara, a third-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft, has 53 career catches for 471 yards and three touchdowns. He spent the 2025 season with the Arizona Cardinals, bouncing between the practice squad and the active roster, as he played in 12 games.
Irwin, on the other hand, went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, and has not played in an NFL game since 2024. He spent the first six years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, catching 46 passes for 601 yards, before being waived in December of 2024. He spent last year with the New York Jets on the practice squad.
