In my recap of this week’s episode of Main Event, I mentioned how pitting Carmelo Hayes against other fan favorites won’t help to get fans emotionally invested in “H1m.”
What I suggested was a program with a heel, someone who could steer the crowd toward Hayes. The perfect guy for that would be Grayson Waller, whose character is easily one of the most unlikeable on WWE’s roster.
There’s just one problem. The guy hasn’t been seen on television in almost three months. Some of you reading this are probably
saying, “Yeah, I forgot about him.”
I can’t blame you. He had a thing going on with the New Day until the group and WWE parted ways. His last appearance was on the April 27 episode of Raw, where he was badgering Raw GM Adam Pearce for an opportunity to prove himself. What his big mouth got him was a match with Oba Femi that went about as long as this paragraph.
So, where has he been? Working live events for NXT. One of his programs on the loop was against North American Champion Myles Borne. Hyping the match on Instagram, Waller said he put subtitles in his video so the deaf superstar could “understand what I’m saying.”
That’s nasty work, but it’s nowhere near as crummy as him disrespecting kids.
In another clip on Instagram, Waller approaches a young child as if he’s about to give the lad an autograph. Instead, he chucks the pen into the air and walks off as the child looks on, his mouth wide open, trying to process what went wrong.
It’s as cruel as it is hilarious, but it’s also excellent heel work. It’s the kind of douchebaggery that should be on TV, if not to build Waller, then to help guys like Melo make a connection with the crowd.
