I hope everyone had a nice quiet week, and a good Halloween last night. Halloween is one of those holidays that seems to have fallen by the wayside a bit for me personally. We live in North St. Louis County
now, and have for the last 10 years (if you were unaware), and post-COVID our trick or treat traffic has fallen off a cliff. We were never in a super high traffic area, but we got around 100 trick or treaters our first year, two years ago we got 13. After that we decided to just call it. We donate some bags to a local Trunk or Treat event, but otherwise we just turn the lights out. It’s a little sad, but maybe there’ll be a recovery at some point soon.
Anyway, that was more of a sidetrack than I planned, but while Mizzou has the week off for football, there are still some vital games being played.
If you’re an optimist, and still a believer in the Tigers chances at a playoff (as long as you’re not completely eliminated there’s a chance!), the games you want to watch are:
- Vanderbilt at Texas
- South Carolina at Ole Miss
- Georgia Tech at NC State
- Georgia vs Florida
- Tennessee vs Oklahoma
Texas A&M, Indiana, Alabama, and Ohio State appear in the drivers seat for bids, and if Missouri were to challenge they would be an at large anyway. So we’re watching any two loss SEC teams, hoping they take another loss.
Texas, Tennessee, Missouri, and OU are all 6-2. Vanderbilt is 7-1, Ole Miss, Georgia, and Alabama all have one loss also.
The Vandy-Texas game is relevant as a Texas win knocks Vandy back to 7-2 and the Longhorns move up to 7-2 with a win over Vandy, giving them a leg up. But Texas also has Georgia and Texas A&M remaining.
Tennessee has Oklahoma, meaning one two loss team is about to drop to three losses. Then the Vols have Florida and Vanderbilt. OU still has Alabama and Missouri left.
And we know Missouri has Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, and Arkansas. There is zero room to slip up against MSU and Arky, and they need to at least beat one of OU or Texas A&M to have a shot. Both might keep them in as a win over undefeated A&M would loom large, and a road win at Oklahoma would look good as well.
Anyway, happy viewing!
