For the first time in the Joe Brady era, the Buffalo Bills conducted their first full training camp practice in pads Tuesday afternoon at St. John Fisher University.
Today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks catches Bills fans up on everything that went down during a spirited day at training camp, including a series of scuffles that broke out featuring rookie linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr and rookie edge rusher TJ Parker as the Bills players showcased their competitive attitudes on a day featuring plenty
of hitting and physicality.
Physicality highlights Day 5 of camp: ‘If your team’s not fighting, then there’s a problem’
Joe Brady had the Bills don their pads for the individual drills on Monday, but Tuesday represented a training camp milestone, with the Bills conducting their first full-pads practice session of the summer, with some predictable results.
Among the skirmishes reported by Bills beat writers: offensive lineman Alec Anderson got into it with defensive lineman Ed Oliver on several occasions during one-on-one drills; TJ Parker engaged in a shoving match with an offensive player during the 11-on-11 work; and rookie offensive lineman Jude Bowry needed to be held back after a physical play.
But the most notable incident featured linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr. After tight end Dalton Kincaid made a catch in the flat, he went down to the ground, then, as he was getting back up, he was leveled by Elarms-Orr, leading to a full-team skirmish.
Aftr some pushing and shoving, order was restored to practice. More than a few of the Bills said Elarms-Orr’s hit set the tone for the rest of the session.
“A lot of the young guys were kind of getting after it. It’s a good thing. You need that. If your team’s not fighting, then there’s a problem, especially your first day of full pads,” veteran wide receiver Khalil Shakir told WGRZ.
Among the other observations from Day 5: wide receiver D.J. Moore turned heads with a highlight touchdown grab; Elarms-Orr continued to make plays from the linebacker position; wideouts Keon Coleman and Mecole Hardman Jr. came down with a few impressive catches; and Buffalo’s pass rushers enjoyed a solid showing.
