Big Blue Nation is now in its second week of having both Kentucky basketball and football games less than a few days apart.
First, Mark Pope and the Wildcats will host the Georgetown Hoyas at Rupp Arena
on Thursday night for their second and final exhibition game of the preseason.
Pope’s Cats toppled the preseason No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers last Friday, which could have very well been a preview of a Final Four game.
They’ll look to continue that momentum on Thursday and finish their preseason on a high note.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM ET with coverage on SEC Network+ and the UK Sports Radio Network.
As for Mark Stoops and his team, there have definitely been brighter days. UK Football has not won a Southeastern Conference game in over a year, and other than an overtime test against Texas a couple of weeks ago, the Wildcats aren’t even giving themselves a chance in most of these games.
Kentucky will next face Auburn, where they’ve opened as 10.5-point underdogs on the road.
While the Tigers have not had the season both their program and fans had hoped for, they’re still doing better than Kentucky, and all signs are pointing to them finding a win on Saturday.
If so, what does that mean for Stoops?
LSU head coach Brian Kelly was fired last night with the Tigers reportedly finalizing a buyout of $54 million. There have been multiple coaches let go now in the SEC (Billy Napier, Sam Pittman), and we’re not even to November yet.
Will Stoops be next? It’s hard to tell, but the decision to part ways feels inevitable barring a strong finish to this season.
Tip-off for Saturday’s game at Auburn is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET with coverage on SEC Network and the UK Sports Radio Network.
