What is the story about?

The network designation is set for the SEC opener between the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers on September 26 at Neyland Stadium in Nashville, the SEC announced on Monday, with ABC set to televise the 11 a.m. Central kickoff.

It’s the first-ever on-campus matchup between the two programs, who have only ever met three times in the Cotton Bowl — a 20-14 win by the Volunteers in 1950, a 16-0 victory for the Longhorns in 1952, and a 36-13 win in 1968 for a Texas program that

went on to win back-to-back national championships.

Under sixth-year head coach Josh Heupel, Tennessee is off to a 2-0 start behind freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon, who has a five-to-zero touchdown-to-interception ratio after a 56-9 win over Furman and a 45-24 victory at Georgia Tech. Before opening conference play, Tennessee hosts Kennesaw State.

Now ranked No. 1 in both major polls after Saturday’s 24-23 win over then-No. 1 Ohio State, Texas plays UTSA in Austin before embarking on its SEC grind. Kickoff at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium is set for 7 p.m. Central on SEC Network+.
