After just one season, outfielder Chase Krewson has decided to depart from the Scarlet Knights. Last season, Krewson played a key role in Rutgers batting lineup, tallying nine home runs, 30 RBIs, and seven stolen bases while hitting .264 and playing all but one game for the Knights last season. On defense, he recorded 100 put-outs.
Before playing his only season at Rutgers, Krewson picked up two seasons of Power Five experience elsewhere, playing the 2024 season at Duke and the 2025 season at UCF
before committing to the Knights. He leaves Rutgers with one season of eligibility left.
In addition to Krewson, several other Rutgers baseball players declared their intent to enter the portal after the Knights went 26-30 last season while finishing 13-17 in Big Ten play in head coach Steve Owen’s seventh year at the helm.
These players include INF’s Joey Erace, Julius Rosado, and Jager Nailor, OF Tyler Wiltsey, and RHP’s Matthew Cruz and Andrew Rondini. Krewson is arguably the biggest loss of this group, as he saw the most playing time last season and had the highest production.
Unlike the football and basketball transfer portal windows, the college baseball window will be open for much more than two weeks, as it opened last Monday for new entrants and will stay that way until it closes on Tuesday, June 30th. Players can still sign with new schools after the window has ended, so long as they enter the portal before it closes.
With all of these departures, and more likely to come, Rutgers baseball will have a lot of new faces next season. The hope is that with a better support system coming through the athletics department and AD Keli Zinn, that Rutgers can replace the talent leaving with more capable talent coming in.
