Men’s Lacrosse (6-5)
The men’s lacrosse team lost 9-8 to Michigan on Senior Day. Penn State had an 8-6 lead in the fourth before surrendering the final three goals of the game. Hunter Aquino and Luke Walstrum each had two goals for the offense.
All five of Penn State’s losses have been by one or two goals. The Nittany Lions have a +37 goal differential and two wins over RPI top 10 teams, but they find themselves fighting for their NCAA Tournament lives on the bubble. Penn State closes the regular season with a must-win
road game against Rutgers tonight (8pm on BTN).
Women’s Lacrosse (11-5)
The women’s lacrosse team fell 17-12 to Northwestern and 10-9 to Johns Hopkins in overtime. Kelly Mackinney and Delaney Radin each had a hat trick against Northwestern, but the Nittany Lions were outscored 10-4 in the middle two quarters to let the game get away from them.
Penn State never trailed in regulation against Johns Hopkins and had a two-goal lead late in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Jays stormed back to steal a win at Panzer Stadium. Maggie Rezza, Kelly Mackinney, and Payton Wainman each scored twice in the game.
Penn State will close out the regular season tomorrow against Rutgers (4:30pm on Big Ten Plus).
Men’s Volleyball (18-7)
The men’s volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-2 wins over Sacred Heart over the weekend to stay unbeaten in conference play. Owen Rose had 11 blocks to help the defense thwart Sacred Heart’s chances at an upset in Game 1. Tristan Hassell and Sean Harvey each had 19 kills in the second match in a strong performance from the offense.
Penn State closes out EIVA play with home games against George Mason tonight (6pm on Big Ten Plus) and tomorrow (3pm on Big Ten Plus).
Softball (27-15)
It was a rough weekend for the softball team, who was outscored 38-9 in a three-game sweep by Northwestern. Penn State did answer with an 11-3 win over Bucknell on Dollar Dog Night, but the ugly series against Northwestern likely pops the team’s precarious position on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
Penn State travels to Ohio State for a three-game series this weekend (Friday at 6pm, Saturday at 2pm, Sunday at 4pm). Friday and Saturday’s games are on Big Ten Plus, and Sunday’s game is on Big Ten Network. The Nittany Lions will later host Saint Francis on Tuesday (6pm on Big Ten Plus).
Baseball (10-24)
After winning the first game of the series against Ohio State, the baseball team dropped the final two games against the Buckeyes and a 3-1 midweek game against West Virginia. Home runs from Michael Anderson, Bryce Molinaro, and Kevin Karstetter led the Nittany Lions past Ohio State in Game 1, but it was tough sledding for the rest of the team this week.
Penn State will host Rutgers for a weekend series (Friday at 5:30pm, Saturday at 2pm, Sunday at 1pm) before hosting Bucknell on Tuesday at 5:30pm for Dollar Dog Night. All four games will be on Big Ten Plus.
