Coming into the offseason, the Michigan Wolverines knew they needed to address the wide receiver position via the transfer portal. After a few swings and misses so far, it appears they are at the top of the list
for a key target who officially entered the portal on Thursday, and he played for the last opponent the Wolverines faced in 2025.
Texas freshman Jaime Ffrench told The Wolverine’s Ethan McDowell ($) on Thursday evening that Michigan is one of his top two options at the moment. That’s highlighted because Kyle Whittingham’s staff immediately reached out to the former Top-50 overall prospect as soon as his name hit the portal.
247Sports had the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder from Jacksonville, Florida as a four-star and the No. 52 overall recruit in the country in the 2025 class. Before committing to Texas, Ffrench held some impressive offers, including LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama and Georgia.
It appears Whittingham’s efforts to retain the young nucleus of the 2025 roster could benefit the Wolverines in this recruitment as well.
“Michigan is pulling for my Top-2 for sure,” Ffrench said. “Especially with the relationship I have with Bryce and Andrew Marsh.”
Ffrench also said it was a “no-brainer” that he would be visiting Ann Arbor soon to get a taste of what it would be like to be a Wolverine.
Andrew Ivins, 247sports Director of Scouting, had this to say about Ffrench coming out of high school:
“Well-rounded wide receiver with the traits and ball skills to work all three levels and emerge as a trusted option in any style of passing attack. Owns good size and somehow plays bigger than he measures as he’s rarely disturbed by press and frequently the one in control at the catch point. Blessed with larger hands that are almost automatic when he’s open, although he has fallen victim to a few concentration drops over the years. Might lack a true turbo, but can create separation by varying speeds as he gets vertical and has the initial burst to get away from the first defender. Impressive play strength also allows him to power through would-be tacklers and steal yardage. Has proven to be extremely effective in the red zone both in pads and on the camp circuit as he’s quick to plant and turn on both stop routes and back-shoulder fades. Overall, should be viewed as an advanced pass catcher that is rather polished for his age. Has experience lining up on both the inside and the outside and could likely do the same thing on Saturdays and potentially even Sundays if he keeps progressing. Projects as a potential multi-year impact player at the Power Four level that can handle a high volume of targets and more importantly, score touchdowns.”
The 2025 season was a quiet one for Ffrench, who recorded just one reception for six yards in four games as a true freshman. He redshirted, meaning he has four remaining of years of eligibility for wherever he goes next.
