As confirmed by the official Chelsea website, and also shown on the social media feeds, Moisés Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson have arrived in Australia, to join up with the Chelsea preseason tour ahead of this weekend’s friendly against Spurs (though they’re unlikely to feature in it considering that they just showed up).
Their arrivals bring our numbers up to 29 in camp, after 28 traveled initially but Filip Jörgensen flew back home almost straight away to complete his move to RC Strasbourg. Racking
up those frequent flyer miles! (Geovany Quenda’s expected arrival should boost those numbers 30, though I imagine some might head home after we’re done in Australia.)
Both Caicedo and Jackson were involved in the first knockout stage of the World Cup, but both were eliminated at that point, with Ecuador losing to Mexico and Senegal somehow contriving to throw away a two-goal lead late on against Belgium.
While obviously Caicedo was expected to join up with the tour at the earlier possibility, Jackson’s arrival is a bit more intriguing since he’s been linked with a potential exit, especially after it became clear that Danny Welbeck will be signing (should be official any minute now). Jackson has been linked with Aston Villa, mainly, but maybe there could be room for him yet in the squad?
