The Hurt Syndicate have floated around this year without much direction in AEW. It sounds like that is about to change after MVP explained their purpose on Collision (June 20, 2026).
Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin were in tag team action against local talent. The match didn’t last long. Needless to say, the Hurt Syndicate won, and they hurt people.
The interesting aspect came after the match when MVP cut a promo. MVP reestablished the Hurt Syndicate’s motivation. That beatdown was a commercial
to showcase the particular set of skills possessed by Lashley and Benjamin. They are merchants of misery and purveyors of pain. The Hurt Syndicate are not interested in competing for championships. They are interested in hurting people for money. The Hurt Syndicate are not friends or enemies with anybody. They are businessmen. If you want somebody mauled, come see MVP. Bring the money, and they will bring the pain.
This is a vital promo for the current status of the Hurt Syndicate. I’ve long wondered why Lashley never aggressively pursued the AEW World Championship, and this now provides cover for the foreseeable future.
Being mercenaries opens a whole new door to explore on television with fresh matchups against babyfaces and heels alike. I’m curious how this is going to work. Do they not care anymore about wins and losses? I’d be surprised if the Hurt Syndicate rack up losses, even though, they only care about hurting people for money. It will be interesting to see who comes knocking. MJF and Chris Jericho are men with money and no friends. Been there, done that though. Swerve Strickland could fall into that category as well, especially if he needs backup against Will Ospreay and the Death Riders. That’s pretty much the whole list I could come up with, so anyone else will be a nice surprise. Whatever happens, I hope we see the Hurt Syndicate more frequently through the rest of the year.
