The Kansas City Chiefs suffered the first loss of the season against the Seattle Seahawks on “Sunday Night Football.” The only positive storyline for the Chiefs coming out of the game centered on tight end Travis Kelce, who caught four passes for 44 yards and moved up the career receiving list. He’s now Top 5 all-time in NFL career receptions, but that wasn’t the only significant milestone passed on Sunday.

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce passes Tony Gonzalez for NFL TE receiving record | USA T0day
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has topped another former Chief, Tony Gonzalez, by setting a new record for most receiving yards by a tight end in NFL history – including the playoffs. And he did it on the big stage of “Sunday Night Football” against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7.
Kelce broke the record on his third reception of the game, which occurred in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s contest.
Harrison Butker addresses kicking issues after Chiefs’ loss to Seahawks | The Kansas City Star
“The 58-yarder, just short,” he said. “Otherwise it was middle. Obviously, you want to make it, but it was short. And then the 40-yarder at the end, you just got to make it. Just pushed it.”
Butker made a 69-yard field goal during the preseason in Tampa, demonstrating he still has the leg strength to connect from 58 yards. Of course, cooler conditions in Seattle can affect a ball’s carry, and Butker thought that might have made the difference on his short attempt to end the first half.
“I think I’m at my best when I’m smooth and not overswinging,” Butker said. “Going into that game, our range was the 37-yard line, so that was a 55-yard field goal. And for the 58, I didn’t want to change anything. I just wanted to keep it smooth, and unfortunately it was a little short.
Chiefs struggle on 3rd down offensively, defensively in lopsided loss to Seahawks | KSHB 41
“Third downs on both sides of the ball, we can do a better job on those,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said.
Darnold finished 7 of 10 for 110 yards with a touchdown and picked up two first downs, gaining a yard more than he needed both times and finishing with two carries for 17 yards as Seattle converted 11 of 16 third downs.
“I think we’ve got to do a better job as a D-line as in closing the pocket, filling those voids to make sure he doesn’t have an escape lane,” Jones said. “That’s something we can look at film and we can correct. A few more stops on third down that we let slip on us.”
Seahawks shut down Kenneth Walker, hand Chiefs first loss in battle of NFL heavyweights | The Athletic
Walker played his first game in Seattle since he was named MVP of Super Bowl 60 in February. But his old team frustrated him and the Chiefs, holding the NFL’s second-leading rusher to 36 yards on 14 carries.
The Seahawks’ defense had that Super Bowl look on Sunday night, holding Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to 3 points for the second time in his career and first since Oct. 24, 2021, against the Tennessee Titans. Mahomes struggled from the start, completing only 19 of 33 passes for 165 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. Kansas City never reached the red zone.
Asked to describe the Chiefs’ effort, Walker simply said: “Terrible.”
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, stifling defense help Seahawks hand Chiefs first loss | ESPN
Trend to watch: Brett Veach, the Chiefs’ general manager, should continue to be interested in acquiring another wide receiver ahead of the trade deadline on Nov. 10 after the lack of production from the position. Without Rice, who missed Sunday’s game with a strained right hamstring, and Thornton, who is on the injured reserve list after having surgery to repair his dislocated left ankle, the Chiefs’ collection of wideouts — Xavier Worthy, rookie Cyrus Allen, Justin Watson, Andrew Armstrong and Jalen Royals — produced just six receptions for 39 yards. – Nate Taylor

Nick Emmanwori: Seahawks’ defense was motivated to stop Kenneth Walker | Pro Football Talk
“I ain’t gonna lie, I did,” Emmanwori said. “I’m not gonna sit here and lie. I definitely did want to hold him under 100. I don’t really listen to all the media noise but that was my motivation. I know a lot of dudes on defense, that was their motivation, too, to stop him under 100 and play lights out on defense and I think we did that.”
The Seahawks did more than just hold Walker under 100 yards. They held him to 36 yards on 14 carries, by far his worst game of this season and almost 100 yards below his average heading into Sunday night of 133 yards per game.
Christian McCaffrey injury: 49ers’ RB says leg ‘just died’ on him during loss to Falcons | CBS Sports
After the game, the four-time Pro Bowler gave an update and explained what happened with his leg.
“I have no idea. It sucks, because I feel like I was going on a run there, and my leg just died on me,” CMC said. “I was trying to get it going for the whole rest of the game, but it just sucks trying to play like that.”
He added some reassurance on his health, saying, “I know I’ll be alright, but it’s just really frustrating.”
Raiders’ Klint Kubiak on Fernando Mendoza potentially replacing Kirk Cousins: ‘We’re thinking about everything’ | NFL.com
Following the 35-21 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Raiders coach Klint Kubiak wasn’t ready to make any definitive statements about Kirk Cousins, Mendoza or the rest of his squad.
“We have to go watch the film,” Kubiak said, via ESPN. “I think at this point, we’re thinking about everything to fix our problems, how to fix our issues in the red zone, in the third quarter, personnel [and] scheme. We’ve got to talk about all of it.”
Cousins struggled mightily in the first half before the Raiders made a game of it in the second half. Vegas trailed 28-6 at halftime, with the offense putting up 128 yards and two field goals. Cousins finished 26-of-44 passing for 295 yards and two touchdowns. If not for two third-quarter turnovers-on-downs, the Raiders might have made it even more interesting late.

Chiefs-Seahawks: 4 instant takeaways from deflating loss in Seattle
Tight ends Travis Kelce and Noah Gray combined for six catches for 85 yards. The backs and tight ends were Mahomes’ only outlets in Seattle; the Chiefs’ wide receivers combined for 39 yards on 13 targets. We’ll see whether a matchup with the Denver Broncos’ pass defense is more fruitful for the team’s receivers, or whether general manager Brett Veach will be active before the trade deadline on November 10th.
