Sources: Colts among several NFL teams mulling trade offers as deadline looms
• The Commanders haven’t completely abandoned the idea of adding wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who was rumored during the summer to end up in Washington, according to sources.
But before an Aiyuk deal were to happen — if it were to happen — the organization would
have to have discussions with multiple people. It’s not a no, but it’s also not a yes just yet.
• The New York Giants have made no secret of their desire to swing big at the trade deadline, eyeing the running back and defensive tackle markets.
New York’s interest in Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne before his injury makes it clear that John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen see the opportunity in front of them and aren’t afraid to offer future assets to improve the team.

Commanders offensive line preparing for challenge from Rams defensive front
“He’s got a couple superpowers,” Commanders center Lucas Patrick said. “It’s his get-off, his play strength. I think one of the things that’s underrated about him is how he plays in-between the trenches in that battle, and how physical and tough he is. But he’s also very smart. It’s different when you get a guy that takes his own liberties and just kind of plays outside the scheme.”
The Commanders’ offensive line has allowed 16 sacks this season, 12 of which have been to quarterback Jayden Daniels. The hopes of an upset for Washington certainly will lean heavily on that five-man front.
“I think we have a good game plan for them,” Commanders right guard Sam Cosmi said. “For the most part, from a technical standpoint, just playing sound football. I know my game, I know what I do. I know the rest of the O-line has a good game plan, we’ve talked about it. But, respect to them, they’re really good players.”

How Jayden Daniels turned protecting the football into his ‘superpower’
Ahead of his freshman year of college in 2019, Jayden Daniels sat down with then-Arizona State coach Herm Edwards. The quarterback had been an excellent decision-maker in high school, but the former NFL coach wanted to drill home that the margin for error was about to shrink. He figured that Daniels had a future playing on Sundays and wanted to prepare him for what would come next.
“He always told me, ‘No matter what, you give yourself a chance to win the game if the possession always ends with a kick,’” Daniels toldThe Washington Post. “Whether that’s a punt or a field goal, you always want to end it with a kick.”
That was ingrained in Daniels throughout his five years of college football, and it hasn’t changed in the slightest through his third season with the Washington Commanders. Among the 33 NFL quarterbacks who’ve attempted at least 100 passes this season, he’s the only one who hasn’t committed a turnover.

4. “I’ll make you famous.”
As the story goes, that’s what Riggins told Joe Gibbs in 1981 when the recently hired Redskins head coach traveled to Riggins’ farm near Lawrence, Kansas, to try to persuade him to play football again.
After consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons for Washington in 1978 and 1979, Riggins, who greeted Gibbs with a beer in each hand, sat out the 1980 season over a contract dispute. The Redskins went 6-10 without him.
5. “I’m bored, I’m broke and I’m back.”
Gibbs’ trip to Kansas wasn’t in vain. In June 1981, Riggins gave this memorable quote upon showing up to a three-day minicamp.
“This might be my last year,” Riggins said. “I don’t know. We’ll have to see what happens. … I’m starting off clean here and Joe Gibbs is a fine fellow. I’m ready to play again.”

Eagles Film Review: Joe Milton is an easy player to get excited about
Strengths
A rare arm
The first thing you notice is the arm. Milton can rifle short and intermediate throws without needing a big wind-up or much of a step into the ball. It almost looks like a flick of the wrist, and the ball arrives with unusual zip. The release is quick, too. He does not need a long gathering motion to generate velocity, which matters when a defender is closing or when the offense wants the ball out before the underneath coverage can rally.
That quick release could also make the Eagles’ RPO game more dangerous. A bubble or slant has to get out before the defender responsible for the receiver can drive downhill. Milton has the arm to deliver those throws quickly, and the ball can arrive before the defense has time to recover. The speed of the delivery gives the concept a chance to punish a defense for overcommitting to the run.
Receivers may need to adjust, because the ball comes in hot, but this is a rare physical tool. It jumps out on film. The same velocity that makes an RPO throw difficult to defend can also make an ordinary catch harder if the ball is high or behind the receiver.

Commanders next game is at home on Sunday vs the Los Angeles Rams

Rams’ Myles Garrett to be activated from injured reserve, play vs. Commanders
McVay said the expectation was that Garrett will be activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s game after returning to practice this week. Tight end Terrance Ferguson also returned to practice, but the team listed him as out on the updated injury report with ankle and hamstring injuries.
The Rams are still working through how much Garrett will play, McVay said, adding that the pass rusher has “really done a great job in practice” this week.
“He has progressed really well, made a tremendous impact in practice on Wednesday and Thursday [and] feels really comfortable with the game plan,” McVay said. “And it’s been great having him out there as well as Terrence.”
If Garrett is active as expected, he will play alongside defensive tackle Aaron Donald for the first time. Donald did not play in Week 1 — Garrett’s first and only game for the Rams so far — while working his way back from retirement.

Drafting the first-year NFL coordinators: Who is making a real impact?
Pick 14
Jourdan selects: Daronte Jones, Washington Commanders DC
I have a lot of respect for the growing Jeff Ulbrich coaching tree. Good pick. But you also set me up for my top choice this pick: Jones, whose defense has been embattled at times but shows bright flashes of play in a very topsy-turvy season. Their ability to attack the ball has improved (they have 10 takeaways), and young stars such as Sonny Styles have emerged. It certainly has not been perfect for Washington but like NFL teams, I’m also drafting for traits here: a coordinator with Jones’ background who knows the Brian Flores defensive system (and the havoc it wreaks) is worth taking on a longer-term flier. A next step for Jones, if the coaching staff remains intact in Washington, could be bringing in more assistants who are specifically familiar with that scheme.

Brandon Aiyuk meets with 49ers, says he’s healthy, ‘looking to get reinstated’
Aiyuk did not report for the offseason program or training camp. Because he is on the left-team list, the only way for Aiyuk to play again was to apply for reinstatement with the NFL and report to the 49ers.
Aiyuk recently hired Rosenhaus to represent him, and Aiyuk filed for reinstatement in late October. But he hasn’t been reinstated yet, in part because the 49ers have been seeking repayment of about $13 million in bonus money that was previously paid to Aiyuk, a source told ESPN. The league informed Aiyuk this week that he needs to repay that bonus money before reinstatement.
Rosenhaus indicated before Friday afternoon’s meeting that the hope was to resolve the necessary issues for Aiyuk to play again.
“Obviously, Brandon is here to meet with the team,” Rosenhaus said. “Fortunately, he’s feeling good physically. He’s healthy. He’s ready to get back to work. We don’t really have any comment about where he’s going to play. We’ll keep that between us and the Niners, but obviously, we are here with the right intentions.”
