Michael Olise has once again raised an interesting tactical question for both Bayern Munich and France.
During France training on September 22nd, Zinédine Zidane used Olise on the right wing in a 4-3-3 formation. That is the position Olise has primarily occupied since joining Bayern Munich, where his ability to cut inside, create chances, and combine with teammates has made him an important part of the attack.
However, Olise has also demonstrated that he can be effective in a more central role. During
last summer’s World Cup, he was used as an attacking midfielder for France, giving him more freedom to operate between the lines and influence the game from the center of the pitch.
That versatility could be particularly valuable for both Zidane and Vincent Kompany. Olise is comfortable receiving the ball wide, but his technical ability and vision also make him capable of creating opportunities when he moves into central areas.
For Bayern Munich, the right wing remains his established position, but there is an argument that putting Olise in a more central role could get the ball into his hands even more frequently.
