You may remember that back in 2025, I did a series of posts documenting the status of the South Of Straz Tower Site, eventually pointing out that the timeline laid out in February for the beginning of construction on the Iron District stadium had fallen apart . By August 2025, it was clear that there would be no version of Milwaukee Pro Soccer taking place in 2026, and definitely not on the site in question, which is what the team administration had announced would be happening back in late 2023.

Well, no, something has changed. Remember the construction barrels in view last August? Those are gone, as they were part of the City Of Milwaukee’s project to repave Michigan Street and install a bike lane. In retrospect, it seems like the city knew well enough that this stadium construction was never going to happen. Think about it: Would you spend thousands of dollars building concrete curbs/medians to create a bike lane if there was even a 50/50 chance that giant stadium construction equipment was going to be in the area in the relatively close future? Probably not, right?
Anyway, a lack of change to the site that’s supposed to be the future home for Marquette soccer and Marquette lacrosse isn’t why I’m posting this. Sure, the lack of a change here in late July 2026 is pretty much proof that there won’t be soccer in the 2027 season for the USL Championship. After all, the construction timeline for the stadium was “12 to 14 months” and that’s the start of October 2027 if they got started right away today….. which is not happening. Extrapolating outwards, it would very much seem like the 2028 season is now at risk… but that’s only if you actually thought this project was still moving forward.
You see, it’s clear that USL doesn’t think it’s happening any more.
Milwaukee Pro Soccer was slated to play in USL Championship. For a good long while, Milwaukee Pro Soccer was listed under Future Clubs on their website’s list of teams. Since I was doing the math on the 2027 season going out the door by way of lack of construction, I figured it was worth a look to see if USL still listed Milwaukee Pro Soccer as a Future Club.
They do not.
I should point this out: I don’t know when MPS was pulled from the list. I haven’t looked at the USL club list since last August when I posted the last update. Could have been last September, could have been last week. I’ll note that the Reddit page for the franchise — hi to y’all over there, thanks for linking to my articles in the past — posted “5 months ago” that the Instagram for MPS no longer existed. That feels kind of important as a landmark for when things officially came to a halt, and it’s possible that the team website still exists merely because someone re-upped the domain name and doing nothing is easier than switching it to a static page…. especially when you’re apparently afraid to make a public announcement on the topic.
Which reminds me: Jim Kacmarcik was the guy in charge of all of this Milwaukee Pro Soccer stuff, and he’s also the Majority Partner/Governor for Forward Madison FC, the Wisconsin-based club in USL League One, which is a level down from where MPS was supposed to compete. I wonder how much the USL home office dislikes him for wasting their time right now?
