They’re hardly unique among corporate “citizens”, but for a company that has long (and at times hilariously) claimed to be non-political, WWE’s embrace of the Trump White House has been… enthusiastic.
It shouldn’t be a surprise. President Trump himself is of course a WWE Hall of Famer. The company’s former CEO and president Linda McMahon is Trump’s Secretary of Education, the latest in a string of roles for her in his administration and fundraising efforts. Her estranged husband, WWE’s currently exiled former CEO & Chairman Vince, is said to be a close Trump confidants. Vince and Linda’s son-in-law, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, was publicly praising the President even before being tapped to help promote physical fitness with Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
WWE’s hiring of a point person for their internal AI plans came along with word he would also be covering for Levesque as he spent increasing amounts of time at the White House. In a new interview with the All-In Podcast, he seemed to confirm that report while cramming an anecdote about the staff at the President’s Washington, D.C. office and residence into an answer on what it takes to be a WWE Superstar (in The Game’s defense, his hosts are about to ask him what skills Trump and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson share as people who succeeded in wrestling and have or could succeed in politics, so the White House was probably on his mind):
“Even when it comes to politics, it’s amazing to me when I walk through the White House — over last few months I’ve been there quite a few times — how many people in the White House are huge fans of WWE.”
Honestly not sure what to do with that information, but it caught my attention. My current feeling is it doesn’t mean much of anything we didn’t already know. But if I were feeling optimistic, I might say it gives us a reason to hope we’ll find common ground over weird shit we enjoy like pro wrestling before splitting farther apart.
Let us know what you plan to do with it in the comments below.
