The Kansas City Chiefs stayed unbeaten with a 22-6 Sunday victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Several Chiefs players were seen getting attention from the trainers, notably tight end Travis Kelce having his ankle taped multiple times. The only player that the team officially gave an update on was right tackle Jaylon Moore, who went into the league’s concussion protocol in the second quarter and was ruled out after halftime.
Veteran swing offensive lineman Joshua Ezeudu took over for Moore.
“As far
as the injuries go,” head coach Andy Reid said after the game, “Jaylon Moore has a concussion. That’s the one that stands out the most. Kelce tweaked his ankle there but continued to play. It might be a little sore tomorrow, but he did a nice job tonight.”
Reid also discussed a momentary scare for an already depleted wide receiver corps and discussed left guard Kingsley Suamataia momentarily leaving the field in the fourth quarter in obvious pain.
“[Jalen] Royals went into be checked for a concussion, but he was good there,” Reid revealed. “Then, Kingsley got kicked in the calf, but he should be ok.”
Reid had no mention of cornerback Nohl Williams, who appeared injured on the Chiefs’ first defensive series but returned to play most of the game.
Speaking after Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes praised general manager Brett Veach for acquiring the offensive line depth needed to cover multiple injuries.
“I think guys have done a great job all year,” the superstar noted, “just being able to be available and be ready. I thought in training camp and at the end of training camp into the regular season that Veach did a great job of bringing in a lot of competition. Guys are ready to step up when their number is called.
“With that, as well as how we run the ball and how we’ve been protecting, we’ve been able to keep the offense going. The hope that we obviously continue to build on that and that we can be available and that we can be eight or nine deep on the offensive line. We ten guys that we trust that can go in there and play.”
