The NFL is ending the Pro Bowl. According to a report by The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones, the NFL is no longer going to hold a Pro Bowl game, instead focusing on celebrating players who were nominated for the Pro Bowl and ending the usage of alternates. It is about time.
The Pro Bowl, besides not being a good event that represented the NFL well, had gotten out of hand with how bad the players were that became elected to the game due to being alternates and others opting out for various reasons. The most important reason of all being that nobody cares. Why should a good quarterback with tens of millions of dollars waste his time on the Pro Bowl?
We could probably blame the whole thing on Shedeur Sanders.
The rookie quarterback who had seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions last year was a Pro Bowler. He is not a starter anymore despite sitting behind Deshaun Watson, arguably the worst-looking starter in the NFL today.
The Rams had four Pro Bowl players last season. Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, Jared Verse, and Byron Young.
This is bad news for any player who has bonuses tied to Pro Bowl nods because now there will be a lot fewer of them. It’s for the best.
