No. 17 TCU dropped its first game of Big 12 conference play at the hands of Colorado in Fort Worth last week by a score of 3-1. The Horned Frogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but let up three unanswered
goals and were unable to overcome an excellent performance from the Colorado goalkeeper, who made nine saves, six of which came in the second half. The Horned Frogs moved to 9-2 and 3-1 in the Big 12 with the loss.
Sydney Becerra recorded the first two shots for TCU with a shot that missed left in the sixth minute and another shot in the eighth minute. Cameron Patton then had the first shot on goal for the Horned Frogs, also in the eighth minute, that was saved by Jordan Nytes, who started at goalkeeper for the Buffaloes. In the 15th minute, the Horned Frogs opened the scoring with a goal from Emma Yolinski off assists by Becerra and Grace Coppinger. Becerra made a great leading pass to set up Yolinski on the rush for the goal.
TCU kept up the pressure following the goal with shots from Seven Castain and Yolinski both in the 18th minute. Colorado responded with a shot in the 20th minute before Yolinski recorded another shot on goal that was saved by Nytes for Colorado. TCU continued to dominate through the halfway point in the first half with a shot from Becerra in the 25th minute and a shot on goal from AJ Hennessey following a yellow card being given to Colorado.
The Buffaloes finally generated some offense in the 34th minute, when they found the equalizer on a goal from Jace Holley. Quinn Cornog barely missed a go ahead goal just minutes later with a shot that hit off the crossbar. Both offenses were quiet until the break, with just one shot from Colorado the rest of the way. The Horned Frogs dominated the scoring chance totals in the first half with 13 shots compared to just four from Colorado.
TCU had the first chance of the second half with a shot on goal from Yolinski, who had an excellent game against the Buffaloes. Much like the first half, the TCU offense continued to produce dangerous chances, but the Horned Frogs were continually turned away by the Colorado goalkeeper. Becerra and Zoe Calyer both recorded shots before Morgan Brown had a shot on goal and a shot off of a rebound that missed high.
The Buffaloes then took their first lead of the game on their first shot on goal of the half by Emerson Layne in the 57th minute. Becerra looked for an immediate response just 30 seconds later for TCU, but her shot on goal was saved by Colorado. Becerra created yet another chance in the 62nd minute but was again turned away by Nytes for the Buffaloes.
Yolinski’s shot off the rebound missed right before Colorado scored a back breaking goal in the 64th minute to extend the lead to 3-1 over the Frogs. Kaela Martinez launched a shot on goal in the 67th minute that was saved by Nytes. The TCU offense slowed a bit as the next shot on goal for the Frogs was in the 85th minute when a Morgan Brown attempt was saved by Nytes.
