The Daily Bee comes to you a little late tonight because I had a busy day at work followed by getting too engrossed in the Inter Milan vs FK Bodø/Glimt game. Bodø/Glimt have been one of the best stories of the Champions League this season, giving a great account of themselves in the league phase, before a late run saw them secure a spot in the play-offs and drawn against current Serie A leaders and last season’s Champions League finalists Inter Milan.
Superlaget pulled the upset in the first leg,
winning 3-1 at home, but getting the job done in Italy, at the San Siro, is a whole other story, right? Wrong! Bodø/Glimt won 2-1 on the night and secured their spot in the Champions League Round of 16 with a 5-2 play-off victory against a team that has won the trophy three times. It’s a wonderful story.
Now let’s check out some less wonderful stories.
BVB News
- Borussia Dortmund’s ultras will boycott the second leg of BVB’s Champions League play-off against Atalanta due to restrictions imposed by the Italian club on who can buy tickets and apparent harassment by the Italian police. Lars Ricken has expressed his surprise at the measures, calling them disproportionate and arbitrary.
- While all this is going on, there has been some drama over BVB’s summer move for Atalanta’s young star Samuele Inácio. The beef between the two clubs has become so heated that the traditional dinner shared between the club executives will not take place. Things are going to get spicy!
- Borussia Dortmund have set the asking price for Felix Nmecha at €70m, with the German midfielder attracting interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
Bundesliga News
- Bayer Leverkusen secured their place in the last-16 of the Champions League tonight with a goalless draw with Olympiacos. The second leg ended 0-0 but Leverkusen’s two-goal advantage from the first leg was enough to see them through.
- Wolfsburg are apparently considering bringing back 72-year-old monster Felix Magath as head coach in an attempt to save the club from relegation. No situation is dire enough to justify giving this guy a job.
- Despite enjoying moderate success since his move from VfB Stuttgart to Newcastle United, Nick Woltemade is considering a return to the Bundesliga, and remains in contact with the Bayern Munich bosses.
Your Thoughts?
What do you make of the spat between Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta? Is this all part of wider issues between Italian authorities and German football fans? Is it all due to BVB poaching Atalanta’s wondered? Or is there something more nefarious going on? Let us know in the comments.
