AEW World Trios Champion Powerhouse Hobbs reportedly finished up with the company last night at midnight when his contract expired. After working a hardcore Lights Out match in the Dynamite main event
one week ago, Hobbs defended the trios championship at the Collision Maximum Carnage taping last night (spoilers here) that is set to air this Saturday.
Hobbs isn’t expected to be a free agent for long, with reports indicating he’ll be starting in WWE ASAP. That has led to some speculation that he may even show up this Friday night on SmackDown before his AEW title defense airs over the weekend.
The latest details on Hobbs’ situation comes today from Fightful Select, which says there has been at least one pitch in WWE for Powerhouse to immediately begin on the main roster, rather than follow in Ricky Saints’ and Blake Monroe’s footsteps by going down to the NXT developmental brand first before being called up. WrestleVotes Radio also chimed in on WWE’s plans for the former AEW star, noting that a name change has already been discussed.
Now it’s your turn to react, Cagesiders. Give me your predictions in the comments below on what Powerhouse Hobbs’ new (or abbreviated) WWE name will be, and whether he’ll begin on Raw, SmackDown, or NXT. Will the big man do even better in WWE than he did in AEW?
