On Saturday, MagentaTV pundits Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Müller stirred up a hornet’s nest by suggesting that Jamal Musiala should be dropped from the starting XI vs. Curaçao in order to give him some rest for the latter stages of the tourney.
On Sunday, after Germany rolled Curaçao 7-1, Klopp had to face Julian Nagelsmann and basically said that he should not have said anything at all — maybe not such a good stance for a guy who just took a punditry gig.
“What I’ve realized is that I’ll be 59 the day
after tomorrow and I’m still an idiot. We are completely on your side, whatever you do. We’d not do anything that is intended to disrupt the process here,” Klopp said during his appearance on MagentaTV after the match (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
There was nothing wrong with what Klopp said on Saturday, but he is clearly uncomfortable in the role of having to provide critique and analysis, especially during a tourney like the World Cup. Hopefully, that worry lessens and he stops feeling like an “idiot.”
