We’re still over 48 hours away from Chelsea’s first game of the season, making the short journey to Craven Cottage for a bit of Monday Night Football, so until then, we can rest safely in the knowledge that we’re completely unbeaten and definitely going to have a great season.
This will be Xabi Alonso’s first official match in charge, and we’ll see then how the new man in charge will set his chess pieces out when the games truly start mattering. We’ve seen the team line up in a few different shapes
throughout preseason, with most expecting Alonso to settle on a back-three setup.
But this exercise isn’t about that. This is about how YOU would want the team to line up. Who deserves to start and what formation should we use? Answers to these questions are often informed by what the team actually do in games, but at the start of the campaign, we can perhaps approach it with a clean slate.
So, go wild. Back-two? Ten in midfield? All wing-backs? Let’s go.
The only player for sure unavailable for selection is Wesley Fofana, with his one-match suspension carrying over from the very end of last season, when he was sent off against Sunderland on the final day. Veteran signings Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson face late fitness tests, with Welbeck close and Henderson less so. Young striker Emmanuel Emegha is also questionable as he’s still building up his fitness following his hamstring injury at the start of preseason.
Choose wisely.
