It feels like Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry has quietly had one of the more intriguing bounce-back campaigns in recent memory. Not long ago, many fans and pundits were openly questioning his consistency, his injury record, and even whether he still fit into Bayern Munich’s long-term plans. Fast forward to this season, and the conversation has shifted, if not completely, then at least meaningfully.
Gnabry’s biggest criticism has always been his streakiness. At his best, he’s electric: direct, clinical,
and capable of scoring in bunches, as he famously did in the Champions League against top-tier opposition. But those highs have often been followed by long stretches where he fades from matches or struggles to influence games. This season, however, there’s been a noticeable effort to round out his overall contribution.
Under Vincent Kompany, Gnabry appears more tactically engaged. He is tracking back more consistently, combining more effectively in buildup play, and showing a willingness to adapt depending on the opponent. Even when he isn’t scoring, he’s finding ways to impact matches — whether through pressing, creating space, or linking with teammates in the final third.
That said, the core question remains: has he truly turned a corner, or is this just another hot streak? Skeptics will point out that Gnabry has delivered strong runs of form before, only to regress. Injuries have also played a role in disrupting his rhythm over the years, and durability is still a fair concern when evaluating his long-term value.
But there’s also an argument that maturity is finally catching up with him. At 30, Gnabry is no longer the young breakout star—he’s a veteran expected to deliver consistently. And this season, he’s looked more like a player who understands that responsibility.
So, has he changed minds? For some, yes. He’s reminded everyone why he’s been such a valuable piece for Bayern over the years. For others, the jury is still out—they’ll want to see this level sustained over a full season and in the biggest moments.
Either way, Gnabry has forced himself back into the conversation—and that alone says a lot.
So…has Gnabry changed your mind about him?
