Tonight it was announced that the North Carolina Tar Heels will be the 6 seed in the South region of the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels will enter the tournament with a 24-8 overall record, and a 12-6 record in ACC play.
UNC’s season had plenty of ups and downs, but ultimately they were able to do enough to comfortably make it to the Big Dance. Some of their key wins this season were against Kansas, Kentucky, Virginia, Duke, and Louisville. They finished with a 6-8 record in Quad 1 games, and they were undefeated
in Quads 2-4. While the Heels finished undefeated in the Dean Smith Center, they lost six games on the road and two games at neutral sites.
It is difficult to say what to expect of the Tar Heels now that we are in the postseason. Things went really bad against Duke and Clemson in the final two games of conference play, but before that they only lost one game without their star player, Caleb Wilson. His absence makes things really tough — he is the team leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks per game. It is difficult to replace that kind of production, so a full team effort will be needed in order to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
The Tar Heels will play their first game against VCU on Thursday in Greenville, SC. What do you think of where UNC landed in the bracket, and what are your predictions for this week? Let us know in the comments below.
