Everyone knows that winning quarterbacks and head coaches get too much credit, and those on the losing side generally take too much blame. For the Cleveland Browns’ 3-1 start to the 2026 NFL season, credit has been spread around to HC Todd Monken, the stellar defense, and GM Andrew Berry’s last two great draft classes
. While it might be a little early to have big playoff conversations, the Browns start has been exciting for fans.QB Deshaun Watson’s revival, from “what does his contract mean if they
cut him” after the last preseason game to “led three fourth-quarter comebacks,” has been impressive, but his overall performance has been closer to “fine” than the main reason Cleveland has been winning games.
According to Mary Kay Cabot, if Watson leads the Browns to the playoffs the team “will certaintly try to re-sign or extend him.” Cabot notes that Watson “has a great relationship with the front office, coaching staff, and his teammates…” as part of the reason an extension could be possible.
A long season remains before any of those ifs will be answered, including what Watson’s contract extension could look like.
Prior to Cleveland’s good start to the year, most expected Shedeur Sanders to get a chance to show what he has this season before the Browns looked to use their extensive draft capital to address the quarterback position. Now, if the team continues to have success, the 31-year-old Watson could be the plan for the immediate future.
Do you think the Browns will extend Watson’s contract? How would you feel if they do?
