The Denver Broncos trimmed their roster from 91 players to 53 players yesterday and made a few surprising cuts. We saw rookie tight end Justin Joly and Red Murdock be waived, as well as running back Jaleel McLaughlin and others. Now, with all these players either passing through waivers or being claimed, they can sign to teams’ practice squads. We learned early on about a few vested veterans who signed to the Broncos’ practice squad prior to waivers, but now we have a complete list.
So, with all that said, here are all the reported players signing to the Denver Broncos’ 17-man practice squad at the start of the 2026 NFL regular season.
Denver Broncos practice squad players
- OLB David Agoha (International Pathway Program/17th man)
- FB Adam Prentice
- LS Mitchell Fraboni
- WR Michael Bandy
- TE Lucas Krull
- LS Luke Basso
- EDGE Johnny Walker
- OL Calvin Throckmorton
- OT Tyler Miller
- WR/KR Kolbe Katsis
- OL Gavin Ortega
- CB Brent Austin
- LB Red Murdock
- S Miles Scott
- WR Dane Key
- RB Cody Schrader
- CB/KR Sean Fresch Jr.
The Broncos have signed 17 players to their practice squad, including edge rusher David Agoha, who will serve as their International Pathway Program player and their 17th man on their practice squad. The remaining 16 are all players who were on the Broncos’ 91-man roster this offseason, which continues their trend of not adding any outside players.
OLB David Agoha
He is a 6-4, 252-pound edge rusher from Nigeria who has spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans. He joined the league in 2023 as an undrafted free agent and spent two seasons with the Raiders before spending time with the Titans last season. Now, he will join the Broncos’ practice squad and continue his development.
FB Adam Prentice
The veteran fullback was the star of the preseason with multiple touchdowns and first-down conversions on short-yardage plays. He will likely be elevated from the practice squad a maximum of three times before being added to the 53-man roster in Week 4.
LS Mitchell Fraboni
The veteran long snapper landed on the Broncos’ practice squad to give them some added roster flexibility. Like Prentice, he will be elevated from the practice squad a maximum of three times before potentially being added to the 53-man roster in Week 4.
I say potentially because he’s not the only long snapper on the practice squad.
WR Michael Bandy
The now-veteran wide receiver has spent multiple seasons with the Broncos on their practice squad and lands here again. He clearly has the trust of the Broncos coaching staff and adds depth at the slot receiver position and as a punt returner in a pinch.
TE Lucas Krull
With rookie Justin Joly being waived and then claimed by the Miami Dolphins, veteran tight end Lucas Krull continues to stick around with the Broncos. He provides depth behind Evan Engram as a pass-catching threat at the tight end position.
WR/KR Kolbe Katsis
Katsis was one of my favorite undrafted free agents, and he flashed enough talent to stick around on the practice squad. He made some plays throughout camp as a wide receiver and flashed some real kick return potential throughout the preseason. He could be viewed as Marvin Mims’ backup in the return game.
LS Luke Basso
A second long snapper? I saw the reports yesterday and did not put much stock in them, but here we are. It’s unclear whether the Broncos will go with Fraboni for three games and then Basso for three games before having to make a decision, but time will tell.
EDGE Johnny Walker
With Jonathon Cooper on the exempt list and only four edge rushers on the 53-man roster, Johnny Walker appears to be the next man up if they need to add some depth at edge rusher. I don’t see him being elevated from the practice squad unless they have an injury at the position.
OL Calvin Throckmorton
A Sean Payton favorite is back again for another season. The veteran lineman can play all over the offensive line and added center to his list of positions he can play this offseason. He was the starting center for Bo Nix vs. the Packers and will provide some valuable depth on the practice squad. Per reports, he had options elsewhere but decided to stay in Denver with the Broncos.
OT Tyler Miller
The mammoth 6-9, 335-pound undrafted free agent offensive tackle is back! The Broncos like their tackles B I G, and they don’t get much bigger than Miller. He will likely be a pet project for the Broncos’ offensive line coaches, with the hopes of him making the 53-man roster at some point down the road.
OL Gavin Ortega
The undrafted free agent is normally a guard, but due to injuries, he played mostly center this summer, which likely helped him stick with the Broncos. He will provide added depth at guard and center while also giving them another young player they can develop with the hopes of earning a spot on the 53-man roster down the road.
CB Brent Austin
The Broncos have a GREAT track record with undrafted cornerbacks, and Brent Austin is the latest player to join the list. He had a good summer and flashed talent throughout the preseason and will likely replace Taylor Reeses’s role on the practice squad.
LB Red Murdock
The big one.
Many were concerned that the 7th-round rookie would get claimed, but he made it through waivers and signed back to the Broncos’ practice squad. Former undrafted rookies Karene Reid and Jordan Turner will serve as the backups, but rookie Red Murdock will be the next man up if an injury occurs.
S Miles Scott
The Broncos ‘ 7th-round rookie was likely destined for the practice squad. He transitioned from wide receiver to safety in college and is viewed as an ascending player and will look to continue his development on the practice squad this season.
WR Dane Key
The younger brother of All-Pro special teams player Devon Key seemed to elevate himself up the depth chart throughout the preseason and was getting some second-team work in the preseason finale. He adds some depth to the wide receiver group that includes Michael Bandy and Kolbe Katsis.
RB Cody Schrader
The preseason finale star who topped 130 yards in total yards from scrimmage was among the Broncos’ final cuts yesterday, but lands back on their practice squad today. He gives them a tough runner between the tackles and a player who can contribute in the passing game.
CB/KR Sean Fresch Jr.
The former UFL star returner signed with the Broncos late in the offseason, but showed enough during training camp and the preseason to stick around on the depth chart. He will provide depth at kick and punt return along with WR Kolbe Katsis behind Marvin Mims.
