Former Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany has been asked about Xavi Hernandez’s recent comments about a possible return for Lionel Messi and says the ex-midfielder is right.
Xavi has claimed this week that Messi was “excited” to be heading back to Barcelona in 2023 before Joan Laporta blocked the homecoming from happening.
Alemany was asked about the claims and says he thought that Messi was going to come back to Barcelona as well.
“Xavi Hernández is right,” he told Movistar. “They told us they
had LaLiga’s approval for Leo Messi to return to Barça.”
Xavi’s comments have provoked plenty of debate this week. Laporta has hit back and said that Messi wanted to move to Inter Miami instead, while La Liga president Javier Tebas has insisted that Xavi’s comments are “not true.”
Meanwbile, presidential candidate Victor Font has called on Lionel Messi to “tell the truth” and share his side of the story but has acknowledged that’s unlikely to happen.
