Per Turkish outlet A Spor, Liverpool FC have been named as a potential suitor for Galatasaray’s 28-year-old right-back Roland Sallai. The Hungarian is said to have attracted the interest of fellow Premier League sides Sunderland and Brentford after an impressive season at the Turkish Super Lig side.
While Transfermarkt’s values can be nonsense sometimes, the player is valued at around €10M on the site. That would make sense given the player’s age, and would put him in the bracket of veteran backup players like Wataru Endo or Federico Chiesa, which makes sense as Liverpool tries to assess the options they have with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong.
The fee is low enough that I wouldn’t really mind if this develops in something more concrete, and if the player is happy to play the part of squad depth, that would work out nicely for Liverpool. Such a move would also seem to be made with Bradley and Frimpong still deemed to be the primary options. Brentford and Sunderland can offer way more playing time though. With the Hungarian connection and the possibility of a Sallai/Salah tongue twister combo on the right flank, all in all it’s a pretty fun rumour.
