Last week we ran a discussion post asking whether Portland Trail Blazers fans thought their team could pass the Sacramento Kings in the standings this season. The answer, predictably, was a resounding
“yes”.
The Kings are a veteran squad, looking to maintain their spot. The Blazers are a young and growing team. That reasoning provided some of the background for Blazers Fan optimism. Picking up on that theme, we want to ask you how Portland compares to another up-and-coming NBA franchise.
The Detroit Pistons won 44 games last season after managing only 14 and 17 victories total in the two seasons prior. 2024-25 was Detroit’s first winning year since 2016, a run of futility that exceeds anything Portland fans have feared.
Nevertheless, Detroit did make the playoffs. They also have an interesting roster, including Cade Cunningham, Jadey Ivey, Caris LaVert, and Ausar Thompson at guard, Isaiah Stewart, Tobias Harris, and Duncan Robinson at forward, and Jalen Duren at center.
If you stack that lineup against Portland’s, who do you favor? Another way to ask the question: if you could trade Portland’s entire lineup for Detroit’s right now, would you do it? The Blazers probably have greater depth. The Pistons have Cunningham, though.
