According to a report from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich was close to a deal with center-back Dayot Upamecano last spring.
As things transpired, however,
a deal did not get done and now Bayern Munich’s financial proposal is in his hands with the club just waiting for a response:
An agreement between Bayern and Dayot Upamecano was very close at the end of March/beginning of April. But then they continued discussing some details, and at the moment they’re still working on that. Bayern are pushing and insisting to extend Upamecano’s contract, with Vincent Kompany big fan of the player – their financial proposal is on the table. Many clubs from England, Spain and Italy are interested in the opportunity of signing a defender like Upamecano on a free next summer. It’s up to the player to decide.
BFW Commentary
If true, this is interesting — especially because other reports indicate that money is an issue (i.e., Upamecano wants more than Bayern Munich is currently willing to offer). If there is no movement, Upamecano could be inclined to wait a few months and see what Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and whoever else is interested are willing to offer.
