This is your reminder that the Detroit Lions aren’t the only team dealing with preseason injuries. In fact, the Lions’ Week 1 opponent is going through it when it comes to their offensive weapons.
Earlier in the week, it was announced that Saints rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson—the eighth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft—is expected to miss two months with a hamstring injury
. Now, it’s another big weapon on offense for the Saints that’s set to miss the season opener in Detroit.According to ESPN’s
Adam Schefter, All Pro running back Alvin Kamara suffered a sprained MCL injury in training camp this week and will miss “at least the next month.”
Those are huge blows to a Saints offense that was looking to turn things around following a rough inaugural season under new head coach Kellen Moore. New Orleans finished just 28th in points scored (18.0 per game), but started to show some promise toward the end of last season—winning four of their last five games and averaging 24.8 points per game over that stretch.
Kamara is coming off a tough season in which he totaled just 471 rushing yards and 186 receiving yards in 11 game appearances. But New Orleans went out and signed Travis Etienne to a four-year, $48 million contract to be their new lead running back this year. Etienne rushed for 1,107 yards and seven touchdowns last season with the Jaguars.
As for Tyson, that could be the more impactful injury. The rookie receiver was having a strong camp and would have bolstered a receiver group that was being overhauled this offseason. Tyson was just one of three receivers the Saints drafted this year, joining fourth-round pick Bryce Lance and sixth-round pick Barrion Brown. That said, the Saints still do have Chris Olave and Devaughn Vele.
“Jordyn’s had a great camp,” Moore said this week. “He’s played really good football. Inevitably, this is the unfortunate part of what preseason and training camp football is. We’ve already had a few of these guys, that you just have something that comes up and […] we’ll just work through it.”
