What is the story about?
Good
morning, foLLks, and happy Wednesday! The Mariners somehow, some way, won a wild extra-innings affair against the Orioles 6-5 last night to take the first two of a four-game series in Birdland. Let’s hope for a semi-normal game tonight, huh?
In Mariners news:
- In case you missed it, the Mariners placed RHP Cooper Criswell on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. Nick Davila was recalled to take his place, and earned his first big league save in yesterday’s contest. The M’s also acquired righty Carson Fulmer in a small deal with the Pirates; Fulmer will not need a 40-man spot.
- Cal Raleigh’s first rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma went swimmingly, as the Big Dumper slugged a pair of homers, including a grand slam.
- Not to be outdone, Lazaro Montes bashed a grand slam of his own in the Travelers’ 11-2 win at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Around the league:
- The Brewers have joined the “extension for top prospects yet to debut” club, signing outfielder Luis Lara to an eight-year, $30 million contract. The deal includes a pair of team options, as well as incentives and escalators.
- Another day, another Angels pitching injury. This time, righty Jack Kochanowicz will undergo Tommy John surgery, keeping him sidelined until at least next summer.
- The Cubs made a small series of roster moves, activating utilityman Matt Shaw from the IL and optioning outfielder Kevin Alcántara. The North Siders also placed RHP Jameson Taillon on the injured list and recalled RHP Ethan Roberts from Triple-A Iowa.
- If it feels like more catchers have been taking painful shots to the nether regions this year, you’d be correct! Zack Meisel at The Athletic examined the cause of the uptick. ($)
