It’s already been a busy award season for Matt Olson, as the star first baseman for the Atlanta Braves has already racked up a Fielding Bible Award and a Gold Glove Award as well. He now has a shot at adding some more hardware to his personal trophy cabinet, as he’s been named as a finalist for a National League Silver Slugger Award at first base.
For Olson, he’ll be looking to pick up his second Silver Slugger
award after he took home the trophy following the 2023 season. Olson finished this year batting .251/.321/.502 with a .351 wOBA (and an identical xwOBA), 122 wRC+ and 41 home runs. Olson led the NL in homers, his slugging percentage placed him in second among eligible first basemen in the National League and he was also in second when it came to Isolated Power (.251).
Considering the competition (Jake Bauers, Alec Burleson, Rafael Devers), I’d imagine that Olson will be a longshot for this award. Still, it’s always impressive to see a player in this era get nominated for both the Silver Slugger Award and the Gold Glove Award in the same season. Matt Olson has provided consistent production for Atlanta since his arrival in 2022 and it’ll be interesting to see just how long he can continue to perform at such a high level.
The award winners will be announced on November 17, so stay tuned for that.
