We did it! We have officially made it through the offseason and right up to kickoff in Kinnick Stadium!
The Hawkeyes are set to kick off their 2025 campaign as they play host to the Albany Great Danes. The FCS Danes are coming off a 4-8 season in the CAA and looking for improvement under interim head coach Jared Amrose.
Iowa, of course, is coming off an 8-5 2024 season that saw the Hawkeye utilize four different quarterbacks. Now they enter the 2025 season with yet another new QB under center in South
Dakota State transfer Mark Gronowski at the helm. Behind him, the entire room has turned over and excitement is building for year two under offensive coordinator Tim Lester.
But year two also brings with it the departure of #2 – Kaleb Johnson. The All-American running back is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers while the Hawkeyes turn to a trio of returner who got experience last year in Kamari Moulton, TJ Washington and Jaz Patterson, as well as freshman sensation Nathan McNeil. But can they truly fill the shoes of one of Iowa’s all-time greats?
And even if the offense is better than we saw a season ago, will it be enough to overcome the question marks on Phil Parker’s defense? Parker lost seven starters from a year ago and is himself replacing an All-American in the middle of his defense. Will the Hawkeyes be as stout as we’ve come to expect in yet another season under Parker?
All our questions will be answered soon enough as the Hawkeyes and Great Danes face off under the Kinnick lights.
