While it feels like things are still very much stuck in basketball mode in Chapel Hill, the football team is working hard to prepare for the upcoming 2026 season. Their first opponent for the season will be TCU, which will be a unique game for both teams. The game will be played as part of the Aer Lingus Classic in Dublin, Ireland, and yesterday the school announced the date and time:
We now know that the Heels and the Horned
Frogs will face off at Noon EST on August 29th. As many may recall, these two teams faced off in the first game of the season last year. In Bill Belichick’s debut as head coach, UNC was embarrassed by TCU 14-48. That loss started what would be a long, painful season riddled with numerous issues. Now that Belichick and his staff have had some time to scout prospects and ideally put together a roster closer to his vision, all eyes will be on the Tar Heels to see if they can avoid another embarrassing season.
The UNC/TCU game will be broadcasted on ESPN. Let us know what you think about the Heels playing internationally, and also, let us know what your predictions are for the 2026 season.
