LIVERPOOL 0 – 0 FULHAM
Pre-Match
Liverpool are two wins to the good after starting the season with two draws. They’re home again, taking on Fulham and looking for another three points.
First Half
Liverpool gets off to a bright start, holding the majority of the possession and earning some early corners. It’s Fulham that have the first big chance though, coming from a Liverpool error. Gravenberch loses the ball under pressure in his own half. Alisson makes a heartstopping dash up to help, but gets rounded by the Fulham player, who shoots on a keeper-less
net. Thankfully, Jérémy Jacquet put himself in the right place and blocked the attempt.
On the other end, some great play from the Reds leads to a Liverpool corner. It’s reassuring after they several minutes of them giving up the ball cheaply and nearly conceding because of it. Dominik Szoboszlai tees it into the box, and Victor Muñoz’s header is saved.
Florian Wirtz shoots wide a few moments later. It’s taken time for Liverpool to work themselves into the game, but are still seeing some problems on their right from the Fulham trio of Robinson, Iwobi, and Charles.
The first half ends in a stalemate as the teams head to the locker rooms.
Second Half
The game continues into the second half with Anfield becoming more anxious to see something from their team to break the deadlock.
Szoboszlai wins a free kick and that comes to nothing. The first set of subs come on for Liverpool. It’s Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister on for Muñoz and Gravenberch.
Mac Allister engineers a good chance for Szoboszlai, and his strike is unfortunately blocked by Leno. That was exciting, but Liverpool still don’t look like they can score here.
Rio Ngumoha comes on for Barcola and Jeremy Frimpong for Araujo with about 20 minutes left to play for the home team to get more than a point out of this.
There’s an appeal for a penalty when Mac Allister goes down in the box, but the referee is unconcerned with their pleas and play carries on. Time is winding down, and it’s looking less like Liverpool want a goal instead of more.
On the other side, Fulham get a shot off after a good run, but Alisson is up to the task. This spurs on Fulham, and the next few minutes are tense as they attack Alisson’s goal.
In stoppage time. Alexander Isak nearly gets there on a corner. Szoboszlai sends it in, and Isak connects, but sends it wide of the goal.
Final Thoughts
Another home league game, another draw. This one feels worse because it’s the first game this season when Liverpool haven’t at least scored. However, they still also haven’t lost a game, so that’s something good, I guess.
