Norfolk Tides 4, Charlotte Knights 2 (Statcast Box)
The Knights (57-67) are back to 10 worse than .500, but look on the bright side, they doubled their run total from a night ago and held the Tides to just four runs once again. Want to know how horrendous a game it was for the offense? You’re forgiven if you’ve forgotten Jacob Amaya was back on the Knights, but here he is:
But here’s the good news: In every
way that Sean Burke’s re-set start for Charlotte last night was bad, Jonathan Cannon’s tonight was good. The righty went 6 1/3 innings in his fourth start back and yielded just one homer among five hits, one walk and five Ks. We’ll take it.
Fraser Ellard tried a hero turn out of the pen in relief of Cannon, and succeeded. However, he handed the ball to Zach Franklin for the ninth, and things went sideways pretty quickly (and ex-Sox Ryan Noda played a key role, with a one-out walk, singled to second, stealing third, and providing the winning run as Livan Soto homered with two outs to walk Charlotte off.

Birmingham Barons 2, Rocket City Trash Pandas 1 (11 innings)
The Freaky Saturday run continues, as the Barons (73-46) take another one-run win from the Pandas, generously offering them a single run for their troubles. They got four more innings to do so compared to last night’s twin-billing, however!
It was another miraculous 1-2 punch with Tanner McDougal and Tyler Schweitzer splitting the start and throwing up seven scoreless innings for Bham. But things remained scoreless until the 11th, when Rocket City doubled in a run and backed the Barons against the wall. No worries, as Caden Connor tied things up right away with a single, Braden Montgomery chipped in a hit and both runners moved up a base on a ground out. DJ Gladney walked to pack the sacks, and everyone’s favorite mini-mite Rikuu Nishida ended the contest with a run-scoring single.

Winston-Salem Dash 9, Wilmington Blue Rocks 5
The Dash (49-68) prove that the more things change, the more they stay the same, putting another nine-spot on the board against Wilmington. Don’t look now, Knights, but the Dash want to pass you in the org standings.
The name of the game tonight was the successful return of Aldrin Batista, who has missed essentially the entire season with a stress fracture in his right elbow. He surrendered two earned runs in two innings, but it’s not like starter Lucas Gordon got cheated, as he was unable to last the five innings needed to qualify for the W.
Wonder if one day Kyle Lodise will regret that his second professional home run came in a Harry Potter costume:

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 5, Delmarva Shorebirds 1
Kanny (54-65) flexes instead of flails tonight, using six pitchers to hold down the Shorebirds, five of them effectively. Meanwhile the bats provided just enough offense to secure the win (OK wait, just five hits, but we’re not complaining). Hey, forget W-S, Kanny is coming after you, Charlotte!
