As we continue with our preview of the 2025-26 North Carolina Tar Heels’ basketball roster, we’ve come to the final group of players: the seniors/graduate students. While there are plenty of experienced players on this year’s team, there aren’t a ton that are seniors. There are just two official seniors on this year’s roster, and only one of them will likely get any real burn. However, that one should get a lot of minutes this season, so let’s break down this year’s senior class.
Seth Trimble, G (6’3”,
200 lbs)
The lone real regular piece of last year’s rotation to return, Trimble should hopefully be a key contributor this season. Trimble comes into the 2025-26 season on the back of a breakout campaign last year, where he was arguably the Tar Heels’ best player. While he was a starter for most of the year as UNC went with three-guard lineups, Trimble moved to more of a sixth man role down the stretch as the Tar Heels went on a slight run to squeak into the NCAA Tournament. For the year, he averaged 11.6 points per game on 42.8% shooting, along with 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
With both RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau — the other two of the aforementioned three-guard lineups — and Ian Jackson all gone from last year’s squad, Trimble figures to be the starting two guard for this year’s Tar Heel team. While Trimble himself is not the deadliest long range shooter, this Carolina team — on paper — has a decent amount of that elsewhere. (Although, to be fair, they did last year too and that didn’t always work out.) Hopefully, that should open up some more space in the paint for Trimble to attack and get to the hoop. Last year, he was very effective when he had chances to do that, averaging over four free throw attempts per game and making 82.1% of them. Considering how ball dominant Davis could often be, Trimble may also get more opportunities to attack, just raw usage rate wise.
At the other end of the floor, Trimble was a very effective defender last year too. There are enough intriguing options on this year’s team that Trimble might not end up as UNC’s best player, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he was.
Elijah Davis, G (6’3”, 205 lbs)
The only other senior/graduate player on this year’s squad is coach Hubert Davis’ son, Elijah, and he likely won’t factor into the rotation. The younger Davis was formerly a player on the Division III level at the University of Lynchburg. He transferred to Chapel Hill ahead of last year, but sat out last year to redshirt.
Davis put up perfectly solid numbers on the DIII level, including making 41.3% of his three-point attempts back in 2022-23. However, the ACC is obviously worlds away from the Division III level. However, a child playing for their parent coach is always a nice story, especially considering that Hubert was a player at UNC and also had family — his uncle Walter — who played in Chapel Hill too.
